Frequently asked questions.

What do I need to prepare for the initial consultation call?

Just take a deep breath, stay open-minded, and be honest. You can email me photos at aimee@organizingbyaim.com or send them by text. We will discuss what works and what doesn’t, plus your ideal goals for the space.

I don’t want you to judge my mess, should I clean up before you come?

Not at all! Everyone has their definition of mess, it can be as simple as a few items out of place or an overflowing closet. I want to see how you use the space before we get to work so that we can best strategize on solutions to improve its form and function.

Do I need to have my partner or children involved?

Yes, please! The reality is that after going through the steps, you will need support from them to maintain things. They don’t need to participate throughout the entire transformation but should be on board for you and the harmony of the home.

I have pets, will this be an issue during our sessions?

Pets are our trusted companions and loveable family members. At the initial consultation, we can discuss how active they are within the spaces we are working to clear and determine how to proceed.

Will I have to throw out all of my things, I love my stuff?!

Most people have a fear of allowing a stranger to go through their belongings, it might cause them to feel judged. Remember, we are in this together! I am here as a guide, helping you make thoughtful decisions about what you own and how much value it adds to your life and space.

What if I get emotional about something I should let go of?

Some items may trigger a response that can occur during the purging process. We will pause and consider what it means to you, determining the best way to honor your belongings.

Do I need to go to the Container Store and buy a bunch of bins?

Typically, we prefer to start using storage containers you already have versus spending money unnecessarily. Once we declutter and downsize, we can determine how many bins are required.

What happens after you leave? How do I maintain this on my own?

This is a common concern and causes many people to abandon their organizing journey in the first place. While we hope that the changes we are creating in your space will be long-lasting, there is always a chance of backsliding. But don’t worry! I will follow up with you, to reassess things making the necessary adjustments to get you back on track.
